Fighting Lung Cancer With Skin Cancer Drugs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

As\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0May\u00a0in the New England Journal of Medicine<\/em>, a recent study found\u00a0that nivolumab (Opdivo), a new immune checkpoint inhibitor drug that reveals cancer cells that pretend to be healthy cells to help push the immune system to destroy the cancer, is stopping the spread of melanoma and lung\u00a0cancers almost two times better than\u00a0ipilimumab (Yervoy).<\/p>\n

Side Effects<\/strong><\/p>\n

Side effects with all immunotherapy drug\u00a0treatments continue to\u00a0be a problem for as many as 70 to 80 percent of patients. These two drugs were no different.\u00a0Both caused\u00a0side effects and the\u00a0effects increased when\u00a0the drugs were tested in combination.<\/p>\n

Positive Outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Researchers believe the outstanding results outweigh\u00a0any side effects given there were no deaths during a trial that focused on 945 patients who had advanced and untreated melanoma. Best yet:<\/p>\n
