Untold amounts of time and money have been spent researching treatments, such as the non-toxic protocols used at our <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.issels.com\/newissels\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><u><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">immuno-oncology center<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. But is the fight against cancer going in the right direction? Four experts recently spoke with BBC News about ways to improve the approach toward <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/health-35423400\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><u><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">cancer research<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. Relax government regulation<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dr. Vincent DeVita, instrumental in discovering the cure for Hodgkin&#8217;s disease, points to restrictive rules enforced by the Food and Drug Administration. He says it took three years for his team to develop their program, but today&#8217;s gauntlet of hurdles would stretch that time to 15 years. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. Focus on early-stage treatments<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to MIT assistant economics professor Heidi Williams, shorter clinical trials for <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/issels.com\/blog\/2015\/08\/18\/epigenomics-research-may-stop-progression-of-late-stage-cancers\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><u><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">late-stage treatments<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> result in more funding. Private funding is usually directed toward this research, suggesting that public funding could be allocated more for early-stage treatments studies. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3. Allocate more resources toward prevention<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Political and economic considerations make <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/issels.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/15\/new-liquid-biopsy-finds-cancer-markers-even-before-illness-for-early-action\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><u><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">cancer prevention efforts<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> a lower priority, states Dr. Christopher Wild of WHO&#8217;s International Agency for Research on Cancer. He estimates that 40 to 50 percent of cancers could be prevented if knowledge was applied to prevention as well as treatments.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4. Educate the public<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Professor Pekka Puska led a landmark experiment to reduce heart disease by educating a Finnish community about the dangers of high-risk habits.
