Thanks to researchers at the University of Southern California, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2016\/09\/160928220623.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">wearable technology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"> could be the next step in more effective <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/issels.com\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">cancer treatment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Cancer Moonshot Launches ATOM-HP<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">&#8220;South by South Lawn&#8221; (SXSL) is a White House-based festival patterned after the ground-breaking SXSW annual event in Austin, TX. SXSL gathers and celebrates innovators and visionaries who are creating ways to improve lives, both domestically and globally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">The USC project, called Analytical Technologies to Objectively Measure Human Performance (ATOM-HP), is part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/issels.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/05\/us-takes-moonshot-approach-to-a-cure-for-cancer-can-it-work\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Cancer Moonshot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"> initiative started by Vice President Joe Biden. ATOM-HP uses wearable devices to provide doctors with real-time data that was previously unavailable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">The ATOM-HP Difference<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Even during <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/issels.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/20\/immunotherapy-is-the-hot-buzz-in-the-world-of-cancer-research-publications\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">cancer treatment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">, doctors and patients have only sporadic contact. Decisions are based on the doctor&#8217;s observations and self-reporting by the patient, which can result in an incomplete picture of the illness. ATOM-HP lets the doctor &#8220;see&#8221; effects of treatment and its impact on the patient&#8217;s everyday life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">As explained by Jorge Nieva, co-lead on ATOM-HP, the process humanizes treatment by allowing doctors to observe patients beyond the controlled confines of the hospital or clinic. Nieva refers to it as a &#8220;safety net for patients&#8221; who may be struggling with cancer treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Co-lead Peter Kuhn stressed the importance of ATOM-HP for cancer research.
